The DU Debate Team has qualified to compete in the National Debate Tournament. DU will be represented by senior Justin Eckstein and freshman David Milavitz.

Beth Suter, assistant professor in human communication studies, recently published three articles: “My sister doesn’t really get it”: Lesbian couples’ management of public-private dialectical contradictions” in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships; “About as solid as a fishnet: Symbolic construction of a legitimate parental identity for nonbiological lesbian mothers,” in Journal of Family Communication; and “Female veteran’s identity construction, maintenance and reproduction,” in Women and Language.

Assistant Professor in Human Communication Studies Bernadette Calafell was recently elected vice-president of the Organization for Research on Women and Communication (ORWEAC) at the Western States Communication Association conference in February 2007. In addition, as vice-chair of the Latina/o Communication Studies Division and La Raza Caucus of the National Communication Association, she will coordinate program planning for the national convention this fall.
